‘Bestiary Vocabulum’
‘Bestiary Vocabulum’ is my collection of northwest coast creatures in various states of repose. These paintings are shamanistic by nature, reveling in their mystical aspects. I am interested in nature’s nurturing qualities. Engagement with “the land” culminates in the balanced integration of the psyche. Nature both energizes and calms us. The Japanese have a ritual called ‘forest bathing” and it acknowledges how walking in a forest has therapeutic affects. These paintings can act as sigils.
While sigils and talisman are nothing in themselves, unleashing one’s emotions and memories into them creates the charge. Human beings have always been responsive to the healing qualities of symbols.
“A sigils (/ˈsɪdʒəl/; pl. sigilla or sigils; from Latin sigillum “seal”) is a symbol used in magic. The term has usually referred to a type of pictorial signature.
Sigel may refer to: Sigel, the Old English for “Sun”, see Sól (Sun) , the Old English name of the s-rune, see Sowilō runem A magic sign see Sigil (magic)
The use of symbols for magical or cultic purposes has been widespread since at least the Neolithic era. Some examples from other cultures include the yantra from Hindu tantra, historical runic magic among the Germanic peoples, or the use of veves in Voudon….” Wiki
